PokerStars Review: Still the Room Everyone Measures Poker Against
PokerStars offers the widest game menu, the deepest tournament schedule and mature software. We checked what the room lists, who licenses it, and where its rivals now compete better, mainly on rake and regional access.

Our verdict
PokerStars is still the strongest all-round poker room: more variants, more tournaments and more traffic than anyone else we compared. It is not the cheapest. Rakeback claims vary wildly between reviewers, and the offer you see depends on your country or state, so check the rewards terms before you commit a bankroll.
Best for: Tournament grinders and mixed-game fans who value traffic and software
The honest question about PokerStars in 2026 is not whether it is good. It is whether being good still costs you more than it should. The room has the longest game list and the busiest tournament calendar we looked at. What it cannot give you is a single clear answer on rakeback, and that is the first thing we would sort out before depositing.
We did not run a withdrawal for this piece. Everything below comes from the room's own pages and from outside reviewers, and we flag where those disagree.
A game menu that does not run out
The games page lists Texas Hold'em, 6+ Hold'em, Showtime Hold'em, Omaha in four-, five- and six-card forms, Courchevel, Seven Card Stud, Razz, Five Card Draw, 2-7 Triple Draw, Badugi, HORSE and an 8-Game Mix, plus quirkier house formats such as Fusion, Split Hold'em and Swap Hold'em. The page claims "hundreds of ring game tables" for Hold'em and "hundreds of tournaments every week". Those are the room's own words, not a count we took, but the breadth is not in doubt.

For mixed-game players this is the decisive point. Most rivals stop at Hold'em and Omaha. If you want Razz at a real table, or a full HORSE rotation, there are few other places to look.
Tournaments are the reason to be here
The tournament page names the Sunday Majors, the Sunday Million, a Saturday line-up, Knockout Poker, Bounty Builders, Zoom, Spin & Go and Spin & Go Max, with the annual WCOOP and SCOOP series on top. It does not print buy-ins or guarantees, and reviewers disagree: one says the Sunday Million runs at $109 with a $1 million guarantee, another says it is no longer a weekly fixture, and a third says it returned to the US in April 2026 with $500,000 guarantees. We cannot settle that from outside, so treat every guarantee as a number to confirm in the lobby for your region.

Promotions follow the same pattern. The promotions page showed SpinGoal with a stated $100K+ in prizes, a Spooky Season Challenge and Power Path. Seasonal events rotate, so what you see in November will not be what you see in March.

The rake question nobody answers cleanly
Stars Rewards is where reviewers fall apart. We saw claims that the lowest level returns 15 percent of rake, others of 30 to 50 percent effective rakeback, and a range of 15 to 60 percent by level. One analysis argues the move away from the old Supernova scheme cut returns for high-volume players. All of these are third-party estimates, many on affiliate pages with a commercial interest.
Our advice is practical: pick a typical month of play, run it through the current rewards terms yourself, and compare it to a rival's published rake table before you move a bankroll. A big field and soft opponents can outweigh a worse return, but only you can price that.
Licence, software and the learning curve
The global site is operated by TSG Interactive Gaming Europe Limited in Malta, licence MGA/B2C/213/2011, with GamingLabs certification shown in the footer. Flutter Entertainment owns the brand. US players use state-specific versions, so the licensing and the games on offer differ by state.
New players get a free Poker School and play-money tables on the games page. The software policy restricts third-party tracking tools, which suits recreational players and irritates data-driven regulars.

What the welcome banners do and do not tell you
The homepage leads with a "Welcome offers" block and a line urging you to use them when you register, with a First Deposit Bonus banner beside it. The page we captured gives no wagering or release terms in view, and poker bonuses usually release in slices as you pay rake. That means a bonus is only worth the rake you would have paid anyway. If you play rarely, it may never fully clear.
Small-stakes players should also check which games are open to them on a given day. Some promotions apply only to particular formats, and a few of the seasonal events we saw are limited to specific tournament families.
Who should choose it
Choose PokerStars if you play tournaments, enjoy mixed games, or want the largest pool of opponents at every hour. Look elsewhere if rake is your main concern, or if your region only gets a cut-down lobby.
Poker is a game of skill with real variance, and it is not an income. Set a monthly limit, use the deposit controls, and stop when the session stops being fun.
