House of Fun Review: Free Coins With No Published Amounts and a $99.99 Pack
House of Fun, Playtika's social slots app, says its free coins arrive every hour, every three hours and once per 24 hours, depending on which page you read. It never publishes an amount, while packs run from $0.99 to $99.99.
Our verdict
House of Fun is a polished social slots app with licensed brands and a 4.7 App Store score from 506K ratings. Its free coins are never quantified, its own pages disagree on timing, and its packs climb to $99.99. It is harmless if you treat it as a free game and keep the in-app purchase lock on.
Best for: Casual slot fans who want branded slots and will never buy coins
- Price
- Free to play; in-app purchases
- Operator
- Playtika
What we liked
- Free to download and play, with no real-money gambling or cash prizes offered
- Rated 4.7 out of 5 from 506K App Store ratings
- Daily free coin gift, an eight-day streak prize and a Wheel of Fun
- Licensed themes, such as the Betty Boop slot shown on its home page
- Purchases can be disabled in device settings, per the app's own listing
What held it back
- No page states how many free coins you get, so you cannot plan how long play lasts
- Its own pages give three different timings: hourly, every three hours, once per 24H
We went looking for one number and could not find it: how many free coins House of Fun actually gives you. The app's own pages talk about free coins constantly, but none states an amount, and they do not even agree on how often they arrive. Until you know the size of the gift, you cannot tell when the free part ends and the buying begins.
To be clear about method, we did not play through this app for weeks. We read Playtika's public pages and the App Store listing, and we flag what is therefore unproven.
What the free coins page says, and does not say
The House of Fun free coins page lists the routes: collect coins in the lobby, load the app for bonus spins, play eight days in a row for a "massive eighth day prize", complete daily challenges and quests, receive gifts from friends, and follow the social pages. The Wheel of Fun appears in the App Store text. A banner on the page adds: "Limited to one FREE COINS gift per 24H! Come back every day to Claim!"
Then the contradictions. The same page says free coins are released "every three hours" in one place, "every hour" in the FAQ, and once per 24 hours in the banner. Maybe these are different bonuses. The page never says. Not one gives an amount, and PokerNews's mention of a welcome gift of 1,000 coins and 100 spins comes from a partner sign-up, not Playtika.
Where the money comes in
The App Store lists in-app purchases at $0.99, $1.99, $2.99, $3.99, $4.99, $5.99, $9.99, $14.99 and $19.99, with the top two tagged as "Generous" and a $99.99 "Huge" pack. Those prices are consistent with a model in which spins are cheap and the longest sessions are not. Because no free coin amount is published, you cannot see how far free play carries you before a prompt appears.
